Terry Hines recently donated this check to the APRL’s Bellefonte postal history collection. The check, dated December 1899, carries a 2-cent documentary stamp.

The building pictured on the check was originally built to be a bank in 1887, was rebuilt following a fire in 1889, and is still standing on one side of Bellefonte’s diamond today. The building was restored to serve as an annex to the county courthouse across the street in 2006.
